Our Father is able to accomplish more than we could ever hope or dream of, or as the Word put it , He is able to do exceedingly , abundantly more than... As many of you know, I went to Nebraska for a few days to spend some time with Shane Drury. He had gone to the hospital because of shortness of breath and the Doctors said he had only a short time to live. In case you didn't know, Shane has been fighting cancer for about four years and has undergone several rounds of cemo, radiation and surgery. The doctors said there was nothing more they could do and now that his lungs were filled with tumors, he couldn't breath. When I arrived, the hospital was filled with people who had come to see Shane. It wasn't just a bunch of relatives that lived near by, but a rodeo family from about 10 different states. Over the next couple of days, I spent my time with Shane and the continual parade of folks that continued to come and go. I was amazed at the number of people who this one man has been loved by and the loyalty of each of them. I ministered and encouraged and loved as much as was within me, but through it all, I am certain that I was the one who profited the most. I was once again reminded of how relative time is and how most people consider the longevity of their life to be the main objective. Most people will live their lives carefully trying to protect themselves and prolong their lives. Shane lived his life wide open and subjected himself to all kinds of dangers, but through it all he gathered as much love as he could and shared it with those he knew. He may have a chance of dying at a young age but he has lived more life than most people you will ever meet. Father it is my prayer that we will live each moment to its fullest and experience the abundant love you have for us so we can poor it into as many people as possible. Live like you were dying, because you are! Shane progressively got better during my time there and has continued to do so. The Doctors are now considering sending him home. None of us know what the outcome will be, but I am one man who can testify that in that small town hospital, God is healing people in all sorts of ways. I saw him heal and restore relationships, bring loved ones to himself as they received salvation, and restore hope to the hopeless. I saw Shane take what appeared to be his last breath and as a room full of us prayed with him he regained his ability to breathe again. A half-hour latter we were playing a game of cards and laughing. I have no idea what the Lord is doing but I know it is beautiful. I love Shane Drury for who he has been in my life and how his courage continues to inspire me. But most of all, I love observing the unique way the love of Jesus shows through him. Press on!!
