Prepared for the storm! Something happened Friday night in Reno that
made the story Jesus tells in Matthew 7:24 come alive to me. It is a
story about how the wise man who builds his house on the rock will not
be moved when the storm comes. Many of you know that bullfighter Rob
Smets is in his last year of his career and has been celebrating it as
such. Well, Friday he attempted to jump a bull and didn't make it. The
bull hit his leg and tipped him on his head. Consequently, he suffered a
broken neck. Because he had broken it twice before, he knew what had
happened long before the doctor's confirmation. Now remember, this is a
man who has become a living legend because of his bullfighting and has
become a Christian leader because of his faith. He has become an
inspiration to millions because of his ability to overcome adversity.
Now he lies in a hospital bed with a broken neck and a real possibility
that he will never fight bulls again. He would not be given this last
year that was to be a celebration and a dedication to all who had
supported him over the years. He was faced with the financial
uncertainty and the all the other unknowns. There was nothing that could
prepare a man for this. Or was there? As he laid there staring at the
ceiling, I asked him what he was thinking. His reply instantly and
spontaneously caused me to cry and praise God. He said with a
smile on his face, "God is so good!" His years of getting to know the
heart of the Father have established this one truth that has changed
everything else. As the results came in, we learned that although the
C-7 is fractured, nothing was displaced and he would simply need to wear
a neck brace for a couple of months as it healed. Praise Jesus! He and I
shared some precious time together that night and I will forever be
changed by it. The storms are coming. Are you ready?
