Dying Man's Words |

"For me to live is Christ, to die is gain" I have spent some time over the last week with a friend of mine who is in the final season of his life and is anticipating being face to face with the Father any day now. It has been a time of great influence in my life as he is a man who has walked with the Lord most of his life. I write this because he has helped solidify some things that have been stirring in me for quite some time now. I have often looked at all those who call themselves Christians and wondered how so many people can call Jesus their Lord and have so little unity among them. What this man has shown me is that when you are at the end of your life, you no longer have a strong opinion about who is right or wrong in many of the divisive issues that now plague us as Christians. He talks of how simple the truth is that he now embraces and has consequently brought him Joy in his last years of life and now peace in his departing. It is the truth that by nature he was opposed to God and his sin had separated him from the Father. Because God made himself known in the person of Jesus, was crucified and then over came death and rose again, mankind was made right in God's sight. And now we have the opportunity to enter into a relationship with him through placing our trust in this truth. God wants to be known by us and embrace us as his children in a very intimate and personal way. Because of the uniqueness of us all, our relationship with him looks very different from one another. If God gave each of us different fingerprints, don't you think it shows how much he loves diversity and uniqueness. Why do we try to make everyone else have a relationship with him that looks like ours? He has now seen that we must embrace our uniqueness and diversity and resist division. Diversity without division! What a concept! We have been told in scripture that we must worship him in Spirit and in Truth. Truth is crucial, but as a dying man has so eloquently expressed it: "Simple, learn of his love for you and learn to love him back. A Father son/daughter relationship."
